UK Places
Few traditional salt-making sites still operate in the UK, but there is archaeological & historical evidence that tells the story of saltworking from prehistoric to recent times. Many sites have great environmental & wildlife interest.
A provisional list of potential sites in the UK include:
- Lymington (about 15 miles east of Bournemouth, Dorset)
- Poole Harbour (about 5 miles west of Bournemouth, Dorset)
- Port Eynon (about 12 miles west of Swansea in Wales)
- Lion Salt Works (about 2 miles from Northwich in Cheshire)
- Solway Coast (from Whitehaven to Carlisle in NW England)
- Ballycastle (about 20 miles east of Coleraine in Northern Ireland)
- Brora (about 50 miles north of Inverness in Scotland)
